How to improve the text on a slide: Redux

I won't take you along the rabbit hole that got me to this post. But back in 2013 I wrote this post about how to improve the text on a slide. Eight years later Keynote has gone through some changes, one being the possibility of adding a stroke (or outline) to text:

We'll get to the howto in a moment, but first tell me show you the redux of the slide from 8 years ago:

More dramatic, right? I think this is a legitimate use of this feature and not simply noise. For one, we don't only get to see more of the image, but the amount of "ink" is considerably less. Let's dive into how to do this. The outline is located  in the Text panel of the Format sidebar:

As you can see the text is fully transparent (#1) and the outline is white 3pt thick (#2).
